Department of Medicinal Chemistry

As one of the earliest departments founded at the School of Pharmacy, Department of Medicinal Chemistry was established in 2014. Medicinal chemistry is an essential branch of chemistry concerned with the investigation and use of chemical compounds for therapeutical purposes in biological systems. This field of study is one of the basic and foundational branches of pharmacy with significant contributions to the production of new medications. Moreover, it is noteworthy that medicinal chemistry deals with the study, identification and synthesis of metabolic products and associated compounds. Medicinal chemistry also focuses on the relationship between the chemical structure and biological activity of medicinal compounds. This department benefits from three educational laboratories used by our researchers and students of the PharmD program. Moreover, there are two research laboratories used by our researchers and students who carry out researches on various aspects of the synthesis of medicinal agents.
