Department of Community Medicine, affiliated to the School of Medicine, was established in 2013. This Department significantly contributes to the development of education and research at LUMS, particularly in the MD program. We are committed to developing the capability of students with regard to the recognition and identification of health problems and the essential requirements of health. Furthermore, our faculty members train students how to perform their leadership roles in health teams and provide exquisite services to the population covered by LUMS in order to improve the health status of individuals, families and communities. The activities of this department could be classified under the subfields of education and research:

Education:

·         Teaching the theoretical materials offered in the basic sciences courses (the Fundamental Essentials of Public Health Services, Essentials of Epidemiology)

·         Teaching the clinical courses of Research Methods and Evidence-Based Medicine, Epidemiology of Communicable and Non-Communicable Diseases, and Medical Statistics

·         Teaching the theoretical courses for interns (Family Health and Demography, Disaster Healthcare Management, Theoretical Foundations of the Internship)

·         Teaching in the hospital clinical learning environment (the one-month course of the internship and externship community medicine)

·         Supervising the medical theses dealing with preventive health and community medicine

·         Teaching the courses relevant to our specialty in other schools (School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Dentistry, School of Pharmacy)

·         Teaching in several Research Methods and Evidence-Based Medicine workshops for medical and non-medical students

Research:

·         Participating in the research projects carried out by medical students as statistical advisors

·         Participating in the research projects conducted by postgraduate students at the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing and Midwifery as statistical advisors

·         Contributing to the accomplishment of research projects at LUMS as statistical advisors

·         Participating in the Research Council of the School of Medicine

·         Publishing several articles in Q1, Q2 and Q3 journals

·         Ranking at the top of the list of researchers within LUMS and at the provincial level
