Department of Biochemistry and Genetics is one of the oldest departments of the School of Medicine. The educational activity of this department commenced in 1995, a date roughly close to the establishment of the School of Medicine. Initially, chemistry and biochemistry courses were taught by our faculty members to students of medicine, laboratory sciences, nursing and midwifery, and health. However, the establishment of new schools at LUMS led to the extension of the scope of our work. The academic staff of the Department of Biochemistry and Genetic comprises eight faculty members (a professor, six assistant professors and an instructor). The postgraduate degree programs offered by this department include MSc in biochemistry and PhD by research in biochemistry that were established in 2013. We recruit one researcher in the PhD program and three students in the MSc program annually.
